We're seeking a Director of Engineering to lead Integrations and Order Management teams at ShipMonk. We want someone passionate about solving customer issues, unafraid of challenges, and eager to share knowledge. The ideal candidate is a seasoned engineering leader with a track record of driving growth and technical excellence.

About the Team

These teams focus on integrating external platforms into the ShipMonk system and provide a UI platform for our customers to easily manage their fulfillment. They constantly innovate to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and customer capabilities using Java, PHP, Typescript, MySQL, PostgresSQL, RabbitMQ, and other technologies. They maintain a DevOps culture with both Cloud and on-prem deployments, collaborating daily with other ShipMonk teams for seamless integration with WMS, Billing, Shipping, and other teams.

Skills & Responsibilities:

Stakeholder management:

  • Demonstrated success in interacting with and managing diverse stakeholders.

  • Proactive and effective communicator among senior management.
  • Ability to build strong relationships across various business functions.
  • Skilled in educating stakeholders on the value and potential of the engineering function.
  • Leverages past experience and uses strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders including customers, senior management, and other business leaders

Technical excellence and execution-focused:

  • Contributes to architecture by asking the right questions to ensure architecture matches business needs for the area

  • Extensive technical experience, including hands-on development in scalable distributed applications.
  • Researches new technologies to stay abreast of industry trends and standards.
  • Provides leadership to software development managers, and addresses technical, resource, and personnel issues
  • As necessary, the director manages vendor and external relationships for their organization and participates in the budgeting process

People leadership & team management:

  • Proven experience managing and scaling high-caliber engineering teams.

  • Inspiring and engaging leadership style with a vision-setting ability.
  • Strong history of attracting, developing, and retaining top talent.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate a progressive technology culture.
  • Proficient in implementing effective structures, processes, and practices for engineering success.
  • Comfortable making difficult decisions as an established leader.

Highly strategic and commercially astute:

  • Strong prioritization skills to guide teams effectively.

  • Insight into product strategy and the ability to develop business plans.
  • Experienced in balancing challenges and gaining stakeholder buy-in.
  • Ideally, background includes working in customer-centric environments integrating technology into business strategies.

Desired Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and grow teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking, and communication skills.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Experience in hiring & recruitment and building empowered product engineering teams.
  • Agile development experience is essential.
  • Ability to collaborate with Product Management to balance technical constraints while delivering value to customer that is aligned with business objectives
  • Familiarity with OKR methodology and being outcome-driven
